Getting started

Step 1: Choose a VR Headset

There are several excellent options currently available depending on your budget and goals.

Meta Quest 3

The most common entry point into VR. The Quest 3 offers excellent value, strong visuals, and an easy setup process.

Important: For serious VR roleplay, a Quest headset should be connected to a gaming PC using:

  • USB Link Cable
  • Air Link
  • Virtual Desktop

Our projects rely on PC-exclusive content, larger worlds, custom systems, and features that are not available on standalone Quest hardware.

Valve Index

A popular enthusiast headset known for excellent tracking, comfortable controllers, and strong compatibility with full-body tracking systems.

HTC Vive Pro

A proven option that remains popular among users who plan to expand into full-body tracking and more advanced VR setups.

Bigscreen Beyond

A premium ultra-lightweight headset designed for users who already own Lighthouse tracking hardware and want a highly comfortable long-session experience.

Step 2: A VR-Ready PC

A capable gaming PC is often more important than the headset itself when it comes to VR roleplay.

Recommended Specifications

  • Modern 6-core or 8-core CPU
  • 32GB RAM
  • NVIDIA RTX 3070 / 4070 or better
  • 10GB+ of VRAM recommended
  • SSD storage
  • Stable internet connection

Large-scale VR roleplay environments can include dozens of players, custom characters, dynamic effects, advanced systems, and detailed environments running simultaneously. Having additional VRAM can make a significant difference in maintaining stable performance during major events.

Step 3: Consider Full-Body Tracking

While not required, many roleplayers eventually invest in full-body tracking to make their performances more expressive and immersive.

Popular options include:

  • Vive Trackers
  • Tundra Trackers
  • SlimeVR

Full-body tracking allows your character's hips, feet, and body movement to be represented in real time, adding another layer of physical performance to roleplay interactions.

Step 4: Join the OSRP Community

Once you have your VR setup ready, the next step is finding a place to put it to use, and that's where OSRP comes in.

OSRP is a live cinematic VR roleplay studio focused on creating immersive, community-driven storytelling experiences. Whether you're interested in acting, roleplay, worldbuilding, game development, production, writing, or simply meeting creative people who share your interests, our community offers a place to learn and grow.
