The Sisters of the Thorn

Founded by Amelia, inspired by the cryptic guidance of her late lover Stiorra and the unwavering loyalty of Brother Andrew, the Sisters of the Thorn emerged as a sanctuary for women practicing the Vagabond Faith. This unique fellowship, born from the blend of Amelia’s eastern roots, Stiorra’s teachings, and Andrew’s steadfast protection, dedicated itself to aiding the suffering and rekindling respect for ancient gods in a world darkened by the Scourge of Gedna. Nestled within the fort near Blackwell, the Coven resides in the only stone building in the stronghold, aptly named The House of Thorn. This edifice serves as a constant reminder of Amelia and Arvis, who valiantly returned to Blackwell at the forefront of the charge to establish the fort and forge the fragile alliance between the guild’s ambitions, the Coven’s support, and the provincial guards’ guidance. Despite their best efforts, the Sisters are rarely fully accepted within the fort, grappling with the ever-present animosity towards witchkind that simmers beneath the surface. As they assist the guild and guards in their fight against the dark creatures and insidious sickness plaguing the land, the weight of suspicion and disdain is a constant companion. Over the century since the fort’s establishment, mutual understanding has eroded, giving way to rising tensions. Each generation seems to forget the fragile bonds forged in the face of shared peril, resulting in a climate of mistrust. The Coven’s presence, once seen as a beacon of hope and aid, is now often viewed with skepticism, as the fort’s inhabitants struggle to reconcile their need for the Sisters’ powers with the deep-seated fear of the witchcraft they embody. Despite this, the Sisters of the Thorn remain steadfast in their mission. They open their doors to any woman brave enough to journey to Blackwell, expecting strict adherence to their guiding Code. This Code emphasizes devotion to both light and dark, service without price, and a commitment to the greater good, reinforcing their role as protectors of the vulnerable and agents of ancient wisdom. The Coven’s rituals, from the welcoming of newcomers to the honoring of the dead, echo through the halls of The House of Thorn, solidifying their resolve in a world that often views them with suspicion. As they combat the darkness of Gedna and strive to mend the fractured relationships within the fort, the Sisters remain committed to their sacred mission, standing as a fierce reminder of resilience in the face of adversity. The Sisters of the Thorn are not only devoted spiritual practitioners but also skilled apothecaries, often comprising women with strong abilities in herb gathering and potion-making. Their expertise allows them to create effective tonics and healing remedies that are essential for the fort’s defenders in their ongoing battle against the Scourge of Gedna. While societal views often regard them as lesser beings, the efficacy of their potions has begun to garner attention beyond the fort’s walls. Whispers of the Sisters’ remarkable remedies have reached the ears of the main cities, where the upper class secretly covets their work. Despite the public condemnation of witchcraft, the guild regularly orchestrates clandestine shipments of the Sisters’ tonics to the elite, who benefit from their healing powers while simultaneously decrying the very source of their well-being. This hypocrisy only deepens the Sisters’ resentment, as they recognize that their invaluable contributions are being exploited by those who refuse to acknowledge their worth. Through their resilience and determination, the Sisters strive to change perceptions and reclaim their rightful place in a society that often undervalues their skills and sacrifices.
